Parents.

At Eaton Arrowsmith, we believe that parents play a very important role in their children’s education. That’s why we encourage all parents to participate in our parent associations.

All of our schools have parent associations that strive to:

  1. Encourage other parent volunteers.

  2. Foster friendship within the school community.

  3. Create an open line of communication between parents and the larger school community.

  4. Provide information about the Eaton Arrowsmith Program.

  5. Plan and manage special events for students.

Our Vancouver school is located in the False Creek neighbourhood, right beside the busy and beautiful False Creek Seawall. Vancouver is a bustling city located on the shores of the Pacific Ocean and is surrounded by some of the most stunning mountains in the world. EA Vancouver give families the opportunity to explore all that the west coast has to offer – from skiing and snowboarding to hiking and mountain biking.

PARENT-CREATED VANCOUVER GUIDES

Several parents of international students at Eaton Arrowsmith have created a Guide to Vancouver with information and tips for students and families relocating to the city as well as a Guide to Shops and Restaurants in Vancouver. Please note that Eaton Arrowsmith does not endorse any service or business listed in this guide, and that this guide is not intended to serve as a substitute for professional, legal or financial advice.

  • International Students
  • Around 40 percent of students currently enrolled in our schools are international students. Over the years, we have had students from around the world – including Australia, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, the United States, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Ecuador, the United Arab Emirates, Belize, Taipei, the Netherlands, Thailand and Turkey – attend our schools. International professionals in the field of special education have also visited EA from as far away as Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Japan and Australia. We work hard to make our international families feel welcome at school and in their new homes in Canada or Washington State.

  • Admission Requirements
  • Please note that all prospective students must undergo the assessment of fit before enrolling at Eaton Arrowsmith. This assessment of fit consists of an admissions meeting with our admissions specialist, during which time the student’s cognitive profile, current level of abilities (including English language proficiency) and ability to engage in the program are assessed. The assessment of fit may also include a visit to the classroom, during which time the student’s ability to engage is observed.

  • Necessary Documents
  • We require report cards, psych-eds, IEPs, etc. to be submitted as part of the admissions process. Formal documentation of a learning disability is not required for enrollment at Eaton Arrowsmith. However, the above documents help the school gain an understanding of each student’s learning profile.

  • Assessment of Fit
    • Meeting with an EA admissions specialist to review the student’s learning profile.
    • We will determine if the program is a good fit and, at this time, may offer the student a space in the program for the current or upcoming school year (depending on space).
    • Further information may be required before a space is offered.

  • Classroom Visit or Virtual Tour / Session
  • We encourage potential and new students to visit our classrooms or do a virtual tour/session. The visit (or virtual session) may be part of the admission process if there are concerns about a student’s ability to engage in the program or simply be a way for the student to get to know some of the teachers and other students before he or she starts.

  • Required Documents & Payments
    • Enrollment documents and initial payments are required to secure a space at EA.
    • Tuition payments begin in February for the following academic year
    • If a student intends to enroll in an upcoming school year before payments begin in February, we will ask for a deposit of $500 to confirm intent to enroll.

  • Programming Assessment & First Day
    • Students can join EA at any time in the academic year (depending on space). Each student’s program is unique, so no catch-up is required.
    • The Arrowsmith Programming Assessment is administered only after a student is enrolled at Eaton Arrowsmith and will determine which exercises and levels a student will work on first.
