Eaton Arrowsmith Shares How Your Child with Learning Challenges Can Thrive Online
Empowering children with learning challenges to thrive in online learning is important, and Eaton Arrowsmith shares how your child can excel in this environment.
Your Child's Brain Can Improve
There is nothing more important than having a teacher who believes that your child has an amazing brain that can improve its capacity to engage in the world. As educators, we have all overheard teachers discuss specific children with learning difficulties using language like, “She will always struggle with Math,” “He will always have a hard time making and keeping friends,” “She’s always going to have to rely on extra assistance in class.”
Your child needs teachers who believe your child can learn and grow if given the right tasks. Once your child is in front of that teacher, whether in a school or online, there is no telling what they will achieve.
Zone of Proximal Development
In effective teaching, there's an important concept called the "Zone of Proximal Development." Unfortunately, in traditional schools, children with learning difficulties are often given concepts that are too advanced for them to grasp. They struggle to learn without significant support, reteaching, or simplification.
In physical classrooms, teachers or aides usually provide this assistance. However, in online learning, these students may feel lost and anxious because they often lack the support they need.
We always provide tasks that match your child's learning level. They're introduced to tasks they can handle independently, and as they progress, they can master those tasks and move on to more challenging ones.
Setting Achievable Goals
We encourage your child to set achievable goals, giving them insight into their own capabilities. They can use this self-awareness to challenge themselves. Occasionally, we might encourage them to aim for more challenging goals, but when they set the goal themselves, they are motivated to accomplish it. This boosts engagement because there's no greater satisfaction than achieving one's own goals.
Your Child Is Given Constant Feedback
Feedback is crucial in our lives. Your child may have faced difficulties with online learning at home, such as getting feedback due to large class sizes or feeling hesitant to ask for help.
We maintain small class sizes, and teachers closely monitor students' engagement using cloud-connected tablets. If a child's engagement drops, instructors can arrange private meetings to address any concerns.
Additionally, your child's computer provides feedback on their performance in the Arrowsmith Program, enabling them to self-monitor their engagement, performance, and progress toward mastering levels and taking on new challenges.
Your child will not only receive ongoing feedback from their instructor but will also be paired with an Advisor who will guide your family through the program from beginning to end.
The Program for Your Child
The Arrowsmith Program has been available for 45 years (1978-2023) and has conducted independent research for over 25+ years (1997-2023). Our instructors understand how the brain works and specifically how to engage your child on tasks that are challenging yet attainable.
We understand what it's like to not "get it." There is kindness, understanding, and a sense of safety that alleviates the pressure of needing to keep up. Each child works at their own pace on levels designed to propel them forward.
Knowledge is powerful, and there is nothing more potent than recognizing that we all possess different neurological capacities, require varying starting points for tasks, and progress at our own pace.
The evidence is clear – the Arrowsmith Program is improving the cognitive and achievement outcomes of children and adults who engage in it. Now it is available online! Don’t miss out.
